Our 2016 Vimy Pilgrimage Award winners are off to Europe this weekend, and will begin a week-long educational program in France and Belgium to study Canada’s tremendous First World War effort.

Lieutenant Governor hosts students prior to 99th anniversary pilgrimage to Vimy

Her Honour the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario,will host a reception on March 22, 2016 to recognize Ontario winners of the Vimy Pilgrimage Award.


Presented by the Vimy Foundation, the award recognizes 20 young people who have demonstrated outstanding service, contributions, leadership, or bravery. As part of the award, recipients will participate in a week-long educational program in Belgium and France, from April 3 to 11. The program will include education sessions and trips to sites important to Canada’s involvement in the First World War.

The Lieutenant Governor will join the student delegation on April 8 and 9. The visit will culminate on April 9—Vimy Ridge Day—at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, where Her Honour will place a wreath during a ceremony of remembrance marking the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Congratulations to Mme Helen Vari

Our congratulations to long time Vimy Foundation supporter Madame Helen Vari for her recent Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation from Minister Hehr. The Commendation is awarded annually to individuals who have contributed in an exemplary manner to the care and well-being of Veterans or to the remembrance of the contributions, sacrifices and achievements of Veterans.

From Veterans Affairs Canada: “For many years, Mrs. Helen Vari has generously contributed to the promotion of the valour and commitment that define Canadian Veterans. She speaks highly of the courage of the service of the women and men who gave freely of themselves during the First and Second World Wars, two monumental events in the history of the 20th century.

She is also a primary financial contributor through the Vimy Foundation to the construction of the new Visitor Education Centre at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France. Her commitment to and admiration of Veterans are generous and sincere.”

VisionTV and the Vimy Foundation present 'The Crimson Field'




On Wednesday, March 16 at 9pm ET, tune into Vision TV for the first episode of the acclaimed series, “The Crimson Field”, presented by the Vimy Foundation.

Set in 1914 during the first World War, “The Crimson Field” follows the lives of nurses and patients at a Western Front field hospital in France. Wounded British soldiers are tended to by doctors, nurses, and women volunteers in a tented field hospital on the coast of France… but nothing could prepare them for the ravages of war.
